International Student Interviews

IT & Design. Future Robot Major. Mr. Hwang (from South Korea). I decided to come study in Japan because I wanted to get a job in Japan.
International Student Interviews
Why did you choose to study in Japan?

To obtain employment with a Japanese company.

What led you to consider studying in Japan?

After I graduated from a university in South Korea, I was wondering what kind of job I should get. I wanted to work in neighboring countries, especially Japan, so I decided to come and study in Japan. I studied Japanese for a year and a half at a language school in Japan.

How is living in Japan?

I live in Tokorozawa in Saitama Prefecture. It takes about an hour by train to get to the school. It's a bit far, but the rent is quite low. Living expenses are about 100,000 yen per month.

How is your school life? ?

I want to concentrate on my studies, so I don't have a regular part-time. Sometimes I work as a school assistant, or work odd days. It is hard to go to school and work at the same time to pay for the school fees, but I'm studying what I like, so everyday is fun. I have many Japanese friends too.

International Student Interviews Special Series 1
This is my third year in Japan.
I'm used to life in Japan now, but it was hard at first.
Especially, studying while working at the same time was difficult.
Interview Theme : Double Major Curriculum System, broadening your horizons.
What do you study at TECH.C.?
I studied programming during my first year here. This year, I changed my major to 3DCG Design.
What did you change your major?
Since I was a child, I have liked drawing but I really didn't have the chance to study it. During my first year here, while majoring in programming, I took dessin and Flash lessons through the double major curriculum system. With this system, you can take lessons outside of your major and broaden your horizons. This system is only offered at the Jikei Gakuen COM Group schools. During the vacation periods, I came to school to study design more. That gave me a lot of confidence.
Did you talk to your family about changing your major? What was their response?
Of course I talked to my family about it. I talked to them about my current situation and motivations, so they did not object. They said that studying is my responsibility.
How is your 3DCG study going?
I am having a lot of fun, doing what I really like. During my first year, I studied how to make software, and now I am designing using various pieces of software. Programming knowledge is really useful in study in design.
I see, that is wonderful. Being able to understand both 3DCG and programming will surely be useful for your future. Please do your best.
I will, thank you.

Interview Theme : IT Passport (Information Technology Passport Examination)
Q. What made you decide to take the IT Passport exam?
I majored in programming in my first year, so I wanted to get a qualification using what I learned.
Q. How did you study for the exam?
I didn't have much time to study, so I came to school during the spring break, and studied with my teacher and friends once a week. First, I worked through the problems from the past exams and on drills to understand the problems that were very likely to be on the exam. The IT Passport is a pretty basic qualification, but it was harder than I thought (lol).
Q. What kind of advice would you give to the students who are currently studying for an IT related qualification?
At school, you have a lot to study for your major, so it might be difficult to study for a qualification everyday. However, if you have a clear goal and you work hard, I'm sure you will be able to pass.
Q. Has anything changed since you acquired the qualification?
I didn't think I would pass a Japanese qualification exam along with other Japanese people, so I was very happy. It gave me a lot of confidence and pushed me to work harder towards my goal. Currently, I am studying for the Fundamental Information Technology Engineer Examination, which is a higher level qualification.
Q. What will you be working hard on from now on?
I major in 3DCG Design now, and in order to obtain employment in Japan, I'm working hard to get related qualifications and a portfolio consisting of my best work. I'm interested in the advertising and film industries, so I want to be a creator in those fields in the future.
